The cancellation of the CCR decision regarding the annulment of the elections by the Ploiești Court of Appeal less than a week before the elections represents “a serious threat to democratic stability,” says digital diplomacy professor at the University of Oxford, Corneliu Bjola, in an interview with spotmedia.ro.

  • “From hundreds of judges who will be taken to the board we only need one alone to be patriot and give us justice”-read the whole mechanism described by the SNOOOOP investigation site.

The oxford diplomacy teacher says that what this case does so much is that he takes place a few days before Donald Trump Jr.'s visit to Bucharest and one day after the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, mentioned the elimination of Călin Georgescu from the presidential race in Romania, to emphasize the “Western”.

Asked how he sees the fact that a judge from the Ploieşti Court of Appeal decided on Thursday to suspend the decision of the Constitutional Court (CCR) to annul the presidential elections of December 2024, Corneliu Bjola replied:

“What happened yesterday is not, unfortunately, a simple judicial error, but a deliberate act, with tragic resonances, which seems to reactivate a well -known chaos scenario.

He recalls that it all started with the cancellation of the elections on 6 December, a moment he calls one of rupture, in which the Republic saw his broken mirrors, and the constitutional order seemed to slip in the abyss.

“It followed, as expected, a period of intense instability, fueled by iliberal forces coagulated around the figure of Călin Georgescu”, and then the BEC decision to block his candidacy, which, according to him, was “a clear signal that the institutions still work, that the rule of law.”

According to the teacher, then a judge “motivated by a dark logic, beyond the law, a Hades in the robe broke the fragile thread of constitutional order, and the show turned from drama in an act of institutional sabotage.

Citizens' confidence was again cracked

“We are now, perhaps, on the verge of a new episode of political regrouping, but it is clear that the confidence of the citizens has been cracked again,” he says.

Corneliu Bjola says that the elections on May 4, however well organized, “they will float in an air of suspicion” because of the decision at the Ploiești Court of Appeal.

The Oxford teacher explains that the incident that happens just a few days before Donald Trump Jr.'s visit to Bucharest, a visit that, “no doubt, will give JD Vance a new opportunity to instrument Romania in its aggressive discourse, with Romania in the perfect role of rhetorical Aries against Europe.”

“Such actions will keep Romania paralyzed internally and almost inoperable externally, exactly when the new European security architecture begins to outline, in the context of the United States and Russia's geopolitical repositioning. If, due to this judicial decision, the elections will be postponed again, the isolation – or at least

“There is only one exit from this tragedy,” says Corneliu Bjola.
