Evacuation at Westerplatte after damage to the gas pipeline


The event took place on the Westerplatte Peninsula on Saturday around 12.30. The fire brigade received a report on damage to the gas pipeline running at ul. Maj. H. Sucharski, in the ferry terminal.

Captain Andrzej Piechowski from the Pomeranian Fire Brigade Headquarters reported that for security reasons, the authorities made an immediate decision to evacuate. The terminal had to leave about 200 people, including employees and customers located in nearby gastronomic premises. The services ensure that no people injured in this incident have been recorded so far.

Six fire brigades work on site, including two units of the Port Fire Brigade. According to firefighters, the terminal area has been properly secured, and the ongoing activities focus on the liquidation of the threat and neutralizing the potential gas leak.
