At the end of June, the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy announced the rules for the recruitment of companies for the pilot of short working time. Applications can be submitted from August 14 to September 15 this year.

Public and private entities will be able to report to the pilot. You will need a declaration and obligation that the remuneration will not be reduced during the pilot's duration.

The initiative of the Ministry of Labor was assessed in an interview with PAP by the head of PIP Marcin Stanecki. As he said, in the long run such an idea will definitely have a chance to implement, but “today it is almost impossible.”

“I ask employers, representatives of large companies, whether they are able to maintain production and competitiveness, if they limit their working time and unfortunately I hear that not. Of course I am a big fan of shortening working time. I also agree with the views that today we should not measure the employee's performance with the number of hours spent at work,” said Stanecki.

He added that there are research that shows that We are able to work effectively during the day from four to five hours. “Maybe not so much a four -day work week, but a gradual reduction of working time is the most right and needed,” noted the Chief Labor Inspector.

He mentioned that at one of the conferences in which he participated, a company in which people work six hours a day presented. “Everything would be all right if it did not turn out that an offense was committed to violating the working time. Why? Because in the morning employees work four hours and in the evening two hours,” said Stanecki.

As he explained, according to the law, the intermittent working time system is acceptable, but the break cannot exceed five hours, to this – as he added – for each hour break should be 50 percent. salary.

“If I were in this company on the inspection, I would impose a mandate for it. It is also a good signal that when preparing to implement a shortened work week, we should start with a thorough assessment of the current regulations in terms of whether they should be adapted to these new regulations introducing changes in working time” – emphasized Stanecki.

The ministry announced that The pilot is voluntary and flexible – participants will be able to design their own variant of work organization, meeting the needs of both the company and the employed.

The maximum co -financing per project can be up to PLN 1 million. The cost per one employee covered by the project may not exceed PLN 20,000. Co -financing comes from the labor fund reserve – the amount allocated to the pilot implementation in 2025 is PLN 10 million. The total budget for the following years – is up to PLN 50 million.

Currently, the determination and settlement of working time employees belongs to the employer's competence based on the provisions of the Labor Code. On average, there is a 40-hour work week, basically five days a week. Working day is 8 hours.
