The traffic on the Giurgiu-Russian friendship bridge was stopped on Saturday morning on both directions, after a TIR had damaged on the Bulgarian side, Agerpres reports.
The Giurgiu-Ruse Bridge is transited by both an important flow of merchandise trucks and tourists who go by car, mainly resorts in Bulgaria or Greece.
The traffic was already a difficult one by the works on the Bulgarian side of the bridge, which required that over the Danube it would be circulated here only on an alternative direction.
Since the beginning of the holiday season, the passing times have increased, reaching some days to several hours, even though the entry of Romania and Bulgaria in Schengen has abolished the border controls.
“On July 5, at 06:10, on the bridge of Giurgiu-Russian friendship, on the side of the Republic of Bulgaria, where a rehabilitation works are carried out, a truck would have been damaged. In this sense, the traffic was stopped on both directions, until the carriageway release,” IPJ Giurgiu announced.
“For efficient traffic management, the number of road police officers was supplemented, in order to prevent blockages and ensure a fluency of traffic,” added the Giurgiu County Police Inspectorate.
Also, to avoid blockages and reduce waiting time, authorities recommend the use of alternative routes, namely:
- Dolj County: Calafat
- Teleorman County: Zimnicea, Turnu Măgurele
- Călăraşi county: Călăraşi
- Constanta County with the border points from Vama Veche, Ostrov, Negru Voda, Lipniţa, Dobromir
