MEP Grzegorz Braun heard changed allegations on Thursday in the prosecutor's office in connection with the commitment of seven deeds, including the extinguishing of chanucin candles in the Sejm in 2023 – the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw informed. Braun did not plead guilty.

“The excesses of MEP Grzegorz Braun, indicating the suspicion of committing criminal acts, are not without the reaction of the prosecutor's office. Today, MEP Braun heard allegations of seven acts. In two cases there were a change in descriptions and legal qualifications” – wrote on platform X Prosecutor General Adam Bodnar.

At the beginning of May, the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw received the consent from the European Parliament to prosecute Braun's criminal liability in connection with the committing of these seven acts, including the dullness of chanuka candles in the Sejm in 2023.

According to spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, Piotr Antoni Skiba, on Thursday, Braun heard the alleged allegations in the prosecutor's office in connection with the commitment of these acts.

“Suspicious Grzegorz Braun did not admit to committing the alleged actsquestioning the legitimacy of the allegations he announced, he made very extensive explanations and gave the answer to the questions of the parties, “said SKIBA in the communiqué.

He added that this is the last planned procedural act involving Braun before referring an indictment in this case.

Two allegations concern the events of December 2023 when during the ceremony in the Braun Sejm using a fire extinguisher, he extinguished chanuka candles. In addition, it is also about an event at the German Historical Institute, where he blocked a lecture on the Holocaust (the allegations concern damage to property – including electronic equipment and not to the institute's headquarters contrary to the request of its director) and for an incident from the Krakow court, from which he took the Christmas tree set up there by the judges, then threw her into the trash.

The next two allegations refer to the events in the building of the National Institute of Cardiology – the National Research Institute, when in 2022 during the pandemic Braun entered the hospital with a group of people – none of them had masks, and then invaded the meeting of the facility's management and attacked its director Dr. Łukasz Szumowski.

The change of allegations concerned two acts committed by Braun “in terms of their descriptions and supplementing legal qualifications”.

The change concerns the matter of insulting Szumowski. The announcement states that on March 1, 2022 in Warsaw, in the building of the National Institute of Cardiology, Braun “insulted the doctor, professor of medical sciences, Łukasz Szumowski acting as the director of the National Institute of Cardiology in Warsaw (…), led him, by translating him, through the transmission of the event through the Internet, for the performance of official duties (…) in the use of alcohol, which he could humor expose to the loss of trust needed to act as the director of the National Institute of Cardiology and the profession of a doctor. “

The change of allegations also applies to events in the Sejm in December 2023. The prosecutor's office accused MEP that “he” publicly insulted a group of population because of its religious affiliation, by saying words: + Like as you is a shame, you should not be + and malicious disturbance of public publication of a religious act of candles in Chanuky's candle religious, consisting in extinguishing using the firefighter of lit candles in the Chanukija candlestick, which offended the religious feelings of Judaism's followers. “

As Prosecutor Skiba reminded, originally in this case, on March 11 last year, a decision was issued to present to Braun. Braun heard these allegations on April 9 last year. “Then the interrogation of the suspect continued on May 27 and July 12, 2024, in the course of which he made extensive explanations” – he added.

However, June 9 last year Elections to the European Parliament took place in Poland, and Braun obtained the mandate of the MEP. This caused the need to repeal the EP MP's immunity. At the beginning of May, the EP repealed Braun's immunity to this matter.

Other prosecutor's proceedings regarding Braun's acts are also conducted. One of the cases concerns the events of April 16 this year, when Braun – then the candidate in the first round of presidential elections – tried to “detain civic” gynecolorki in a hospital in Oleśnica, performing legal abortions. The allegations in this case are to relate to, among others unlawful deprivation of a doctor in the hospital, violation of her bodily integrity, verbal insulting during her performance of his duties, as well as slandering her about actions that can undermine confidence in the profession of a doctor. Therefore, the investigation at the beginning of June this year. Another application was sent to the EP to repeal immunity to Braun.

The prosecutor's office is also conducting proceedings regarding the insult to Jews and hate call in connection with the statement of Braun from the presidential debate organized on April 28 by the “Super Express” daily. The next proceedings are conducted in the case of Braun's election meeting on April 30 in Biała Podlaska, when the Flag of Ukraine was removed from the city office building – suspended there in a gesture of solidarity with this country fighting Russian aggression.
