Users will be more protected, starting July 7, in the face of misleading calls that use fake identification data, made on behalf of public institutions, banks or companies, according to an announcement made by the National Authority for Administration and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM), informs news.ro.
“Starting Monday, July 7, 2025, users will be more protected in front of misleading calls that use false identification data, made on behalf of public institutions, banks or companies. Thus, operators will block the calls initiated outside the territory The measure to limit the phenomenon called “cli spoofing” (falsifying the number displayed when receiving a call), “announces ANCOM.
The measure established by the authority comes from an in -depth analysis and consultation with the main providers of electronic communications services and with the representatives of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police.
By applying this technical solution, it aims to significantly reduce the incidence of Cli Spoofing, in the case of fraud by which a user is called on behalf of an official entity, including in situations where users' contact data have been obtained from interactions with Deepfake type materials generated with artificial intelligence (including generative).
ANCOM draws attention to the fact that only the application of these technical measures cannot lead to the eradication of fraud cases, which is why users are encouraged to continue to show special caution and take caution measures in case they receive calls from suspected phone numbers:
- to check the appellant's identity;
- not to provide personal data by telephone (identification data, bank data, passwords, PINs, etc.);
- to update their software and applications on the phone;
- to report these situations to the authorities.
