Video the largest ophthalmology hospital in Transylvania. Dr. Holhoș: “A dream come true at home”

After almost 15 years of work in patient's job and an investment of six million euros from their own funds, Dr. Teodor Holhoș brings home, in Alba Iulia, the largest private ophthalmology hospital in Transylvania. The new medical unit promises access to high complexity surgery and conditions to international standards, including the possibility of cornea transplant, a premiere in the region.
The new hospital, located in the network of clinics Dr. Holhoș, comes in response to the need for an infrastructure that allows the performance of complex surgery, impossible to perform in a cabinet or clinic.
“The hospital came as a natural idea, we already had clinics where we made ophthalmological interventions, but we did not have the necessary infrastructure for more complex operations,” explained Dr. Teodor Holhoș, the founder of the network.
These interventions include corneal transplantation, which requires post-operative hospitalization and monitoring, impossible aspects in the absence of a complete operating block and an intensive care section.
“These operations require a complete operator block, with salons and specialized guard. I could not do this until now, and the desire to provide these services brought me here, at the inauguration of the hospital,” the doctor added.
The medical unit has a total area of 3,800 m² and is equipped with four operating rooms to international standards. In the first stage, the hospital will provide ophthalmological surgery services, and other medical specialties, such as orthopedics, urology, neurosurgery and pediatrics will integrate in the future.
The technical facilities of the hospital comply with the highest international standards, an aspect underlined by one of the project coordinators. “The operating block is composed of four operating rooms and is equipped to international standards. It has an air treatment plant that performs positive pressure in the operating rooms, which prevents the appearance of nosocomial infections,” Adina Todor, Holhoș Hospital Manager
The opening of Dr. Holhoș hospital in Alba Iulia marks a major step in the development of private medical infrastructure in Transylvania. By expanding the services to complex interventions and multiple specialties, the unit not only raises the standards in ophthalmology, but offers patients from all over the region easier access to modern treatments, without having to move to larger university centers.
The network Dr. Holhoș has reached a turnover of over 11 million euros in the last year, and according to the study “The market for ophthalmology medical services”, the brand is the best known of the ophthalmology clinics in Romania and the number 1 preference of patients who have ophthalmological disorders.
“I even received at the inauguration of the hospital a prize from Zeiss, for the ophthalmology network with the largest volume of operations in Romania, with a total of over 5,500 interventions in a year. One thing that, for me, is extraordinary and forces me to top services,” Dr. Teodor Holhoș told us.
