Tornado season in the USA. There have beenn't so many applications for over a decade

Four states are particularly distinguished by an extremely large number of tornadoes. The leader is Texas, where 145 were recorded. In second place is Illinois with 130 applications, the third is Missouri with 117, and the fourth – Mississippi, where 101 tornadoes were confirmed.
In turn, some states recorded a surprisingly low level of activity. Wyoming and Oregon, who had several dozen applications last year, did not register any this season. In Iów, where until June 2023 there were 118 tornadoes, in the same period of 2024 only 16 of them appeared.
The opposite trend was observed in Mississippi – Last year there were only 25 tornadoes, and in the current season over 100. There have been 34 tornado in North Dakota so far, while there was none a year earlier.
Tornado waves in the United States. Record season
Most of this year's activity fell on March and April, when four large waves of tornadoes occurred. In mid -May, the situation has aggravated again – over 160 new applications were registered.
The American Center of Storm Forecasts (SPC) emphasizes that the data relate to preliminary reports and may be corrected. Nevertheless, The 2025 season is not only distinguished by its exceptional activity, but also significantly exceeds the historical average. As expected, everything indicates that it can become one of the most extreme in history.
