July 2 in the history of the EAO: President in Birobidzhan, the birthday of the district

A decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR was published that an independent Birobidzhan district of regional subordination was formed in the Jewish Autonomous Region. This date was the birthday of the district. For the first time, the area was formed on May 7, 1934 in connection with the transformation of the Far Eastern Territory and became part of the Jewish Autonomous Region. In 1936, the district was abolished, and in 1942 it was again formed.

The area is surrounded by the foothills of the Small Hingan, the peaks of the Povet, Pike, Bolshaya Ushumun, the Churchinsky Range. It is located in the lower reaches of the Bira River, its tributaries also occur through the district: small bira, large and small Ushumun, transverse, birushka, etc.

The district includes six municipalities: Birofeld rural settlement; Valdheim rural settlement; Dubovsky rural settlement; Nadezhdinsky rural settlement; Nayfeld rural settlement; Ptichninsky rural settlement.

The Trans -Siberian Railway and the Birobidzhan -Leninsk line are held throughout the district. All settlements of the district are connected with Birobidzhan Roads.

For the first time in the history of the existence of the EAO, the head of state visited it. On the shores of Bira, at that time the President of Russia, Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev, arrived in the afternoon of July 2.

The president’s visit program was saturated and non -standard. It began with a visit to the Palace of Marriage. The president sincerely congratulated the suitors and brides, personally handed them a marriage certificate.

Then Dmitry Medvedev visited the Freud community, where he was met by the chief rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar. Here the president heard Yiddish – the little artists of the People’s Children's Ensemble of the Jewish song “Ilanot” performed a song for the guest. The President asked about the development of Jewish culture in the region, the study of language and the publication of literature for Yiddish.

Dmitry Medvedev was shown by unique books and comments on the Torah stored in the Birobidzhan synagogue. In the Freud community, the president was presented to the president of the Yiddish language and the picture of Vladislav Tsap “Birobidzhansky Station”. Before leaving the community, Dmitry Medvedev, according to Jewish tradition, laid his pebble to the memorable sign to the victims of the Holocaust, which is installed at the community building.

The production part of the presidential stay in Birobidzhan began with a visit to the FOMA office furniture plant. Dmitry Medvedev got acquainted with the work of the enterprise, where modern high -precision equipment with software was installed.

The president continued the topic of the development of entrepreneurship in the office of the governor of the region Alexander Vinnikov. In memory of a trip to the Jewish Autonomous Region, Alexander Vinnikov presented the head of the state a gift copy of the monument to the Jewish writer Sholom Aleichem, installed in Birobidzhan.

The visit of a walk along the embankment of Bira ended, where the Birobidzhanians were able to talk with the head of state and hear from the president a lot of pleasant words about the Far Eastern beauties.
