An 18 -year -old French young man, who claims to be part of the Misogina “Incel” movement, was arrested and put under official accusation, being suspected of placing attacks against women, the National Anti -Terrorist Prosecutor's Office (PNAT) announced, The Guardian notes.

The arrest, which took place on Wednesday, marks the first file of PNAT related to the movement “Incel” (“involuntary single”) – an online network made up of men who feel motivated to resort to violence against women, whom they consider to reject their sexual or romantic advances.

PNAT confirmed on Tuesday that he has opened a judicial investigation “against an 18 -year -old who claims to be a member of the Incel Movement”, specifying that he is investigated for the alleged “association with terrorists to prepare one or more attacks against some people”.

A source close to the investigation confirmed for the French press that the suspect was arrested near a school in the Saint-Étienne region, in the center of France, and that he had two knives. Authorities suspect they were planning to attack women.

Ideologies based on mistrust and hatred towards women have gained more and more visibility globally in the last decade, especially through online channels and social platforms.

“I met a suffering teenager, not a fighter who is preparing for action. The investigation will bring this file to his real proportions from the point of view of the qualification and personality of the defendant,” said AFP Maria Snitsar, the young man's lawyer, according to news.ro.
