July is a hot time for blueberries. The berries are poured, the bushes are growing, and just now it depends on your departure, what the crop will be, juicy and generous or modest and sour.
Watering: Don't let the bush dry out
In July, the heat intensifies, and the blueberries especially need moisture. Water at least once a week with warm water, the cold will only harm. The main thing is that not only the top of the soil remains wet, but also the lower layers. Watering is also useless. The earth should be wet, but not turn into a swamp.
Mulch: both beautiful and useful
If the soil has not yet been mulched under the bushes, now is the time. A layer of needles, straws or chips will hold moisture, will not allow weeds to grow and save the roots from overheating. And over time, such a mulch will become a natural fertilizer.
Top dressing: A little effort for growth
If in June they did not manage to feed, it doesn’t matter. In early July, you can still use fertilizers for acidic plants, where there is nitrogen and trace elements. The main thing is to strictly follow the instructions and not exceed the permissible dose.
When should trim
The ripened blueberry is better to collect right away. You should not leave it on the bush. Berries can begin to rot and ruin neighboring fruits. At the same time, you can remove dry and weak branches. So the bush will better ventilate and illuminate.
Follow the pests
Aphids, ticks, fungus – dangerous pests for blueberries. They are easy not to notice and start the problem. Inspect the leaves and berries at least once every few days. If you find something, then treat the bushes with safe means for fruit crops.
Tit heavy branches
If the branches with berries bend under weight, it is better to tie them with a soft rope. This will protect them from a breakdown and provide the berries more than the sun.
What should be provided
While July is in full swing, you can already think through a plan for the end of summer: trimming, forming a bush and preparing for winter. All this will help maintain plant health and set a good start for the next season.
If you do everything on time, the blueberries will delight with taste, aroma and crop without much effort and chemistry.
