The ministry reminded that with the introduction of compulsory military service for women from 2026, the training period will be extended from the current four to 11 months. The first five months are to be based on primary training, and the remaining six are the operational service in the Land Army, the Navy, the Air Force or the Command of Special Operations.

In Denmark, so far women could serve military as a volunteer.

Earlier, it was assumed that women would start serving in the army only from January 1, 2027, but in March the head of the Denmark of Troels Lund Poulsen defense ministry accelerated the reform entry into force after obtaining a broad political agreement in parliament. He explained “the need to quickly increase the number of the army in connection with the situation in the field of security policy.”

The Danish system of vocations to the army consists in accepting volunteers, and if the letters do not fill up, there is a draw of conscripts from a given year. Currently, every year, military training undergoes 5,000 recruits, until 2033 this number is to increase gradually to 7.5 thousand (PAP)
