Two spouses of rulers of Muntenia will be canonized by the Romanian Orthodox Church. The decision will be formalized in 2026

Patriarch Daniel announced that, in the commemorative year of the Holy Women in the Calendar (2026), 16 women will be canonized, among them the wives of the rulers Constantin Brâncoveanu and Neagoe Basarab.

Of the 16 canonizations, six are proposals made Monday evening in a meeting of the Synod of Metropolitan of Muntenia and Dobrogea, informs basilica.ro, the press agency of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

At the meeting of the Metropolitan Synod, the Patriarch presented six canonization proposals from the Archdiocese of Bucharest, Archbishopric of Argeș and Muscel the Episcopate of Dacia Felix:

• Mrs. Maria Brâncoveanu, the wife of St. Constantin Brâncoveanu
• Schoofteia Antonescu's Schoofteia from the Pasa Monastery
• Muceniță monk Evloghia Ţârlea from Samurcășești Monastery
• Elisabeta Lazăr's scheonah of the bird monastery
• The monastery Platonida – Mrs. Despina Milița, the wife of Saint Voievod Neagoe Basarab
• Măndalina (or Magdalena) Milenco, a worthy and hard -working hard -working of the Romanian community in Mălainița, the Vicariat of Timoc of Serbia

Patriarch Daniel said that, in total, there will be 16 canonizations made by the BOR, both women from the monastic environment and “who have given birth and raised children in faith”.

The general proclamation of these canonizations, will probably be done on the Sunday of the Women, the quoted source says.
