Romania and the USA, united for the security of the Black Sea region: “Our relationship is a fundamental pillar”

The strategic partnership between Romania and the United States was reaffirmed on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense (MApN), in the context of the increasing stresses in the Black Sea area.

The Minister of National Defense, Liviu-Ionuț Mosteanu, met on July 1 with the business task of the US Embassy in Bucharest, His Excellency Michael Dickerson. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral defense cooperation and on the common response to security challenges in the extended Black Sea region.
American military presence, essential for Romania's security
Within the meeting, “”The Minister of Defense emphasized the importance of maintaining a robust US military presence on the territory of Romania, an essential element in strengthening the NATO position.”, It is shown in the MApN statement. Both parties have reaffirmed their firm commitment to defend the eastern flank of the Alliance, in the context of the increasingly complex challenges in the area.
Strategic goal: 5% of GDP for defense by 2035
The officials also discussed the commitment of Romania to reach a level of investments of 5% of GDP in the field of defense by 2035, an objective set following the NATO summit in The Hague. These efforts are meant to strengthen national and allied defense capabilities, increase resilience and support Ukraine's security efforts.
Solid cooperation between Romanian and American armies
The Minister of Defense highlighted the excellent relationship between the armed forces of the two countries, considered a key element of the strategic partnership. “Our relationship with the United States is a fundamental pillar of national and regional security. We will continue to deepen this strategic collaboration to respond effectively to any security challenges ”, said Liviu-Ionuț Mosteanu.
Romania, stability pillar in the region
Romania reaffirms its commitment to modernize and adapt the armed forces in close cooperation with the United States, thus strengthening its position of stability in NATO and in the Black Sea region. The Romanian authorities consider that the current regional context requires an active involvement and a close alloy cooperation.
