The PNL leadership meets on Saturday at 11.00 am in a meeting of the National Political Council, which has the role of preparing the July Congress in which the Liberals will choose their new leadership. According to HotNews sources, Ilie Bolojan will not have a counter -judgment for the presidency of the band, but he will receive a 2 -year term and not 4 years, as was normally.
The Liberals prepare a new state of the party that wants to introduce a decentralization and a more supple management team. The convening of the PNL Congress and the presentation and approval of the project to amend the PNL status are the two points on the agenda of the Saturday meeting.
According to PNL sources, the future Executive Bureau will be reduced to 70 members, currently to 25-27 members. The 8 vice -presidents and one or two members of the branch will be part of it. Also, a novelty will be two automatic places for people outside the party.
In the new state an article will be introduced in the new state, which stipulates that the party “at the proposal of the PNL president, by derogation from the provisions of the state, can co -operate in PNL management positions of political, social, cultural, econonomic life”.
The new state will also introduce a provision by which the leaders of ten branches that have the weakest results in the elections will be automatically dismissed from the internal party.
In a meeting of the Permanent Bureau of the PNL, which took place from 9:30 in the Parliament, the PNL leaders also talked about the party's debt, which Snoop wrote that it is 25 million lei. Ilie Bolojan told the party members to pay their contributions, in order to cover the huge debt of the party.
PNL has 7 -month interim leadership
In a meeting that took place on June 16 at noon in the Ilie Bolojan's Senate office, several PNL leaders established that the party organized until mid-July the Congress in which the new leadership will be chosen.
Nicolae Ciucă resigned from the position of president of PNL on November 25, 2024, about two years since he had been elected to this position in the party congress.
The old PNL leadership resigned after the first round of last year's presidential elections, when Nicolae Ciuca ranked fifth, with 8.79% of the votes. On November 25, the Executive Bureau of the Party decided to dissolve the old leadership and voted a new, interim, until a congress was organized.
Ilie Bolojan was then appointed interim president, and the first vice-presidents were appointed are Emil Boc, the mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Ciprian Ciucu, the mayor of Sector 6 and the MEP Dan Motreanu.
Adrian Veștea took Lucian Bode's place as Secretary General. From the old leadership, only Dan Motreanu kept his job, holding the head of PNL Giurgiu, the only county in which Nicolae Ciuca ranked first in the presidential elections.
In December 2024, after the parliamentary elections, Ilie Bolojan was appointed president of the Senate. From that position, in February 2025 he took over the position of interim president of Romania, after the resignation of Klaus Iohannis. Ilie Bolojan returned to the PNL leadership on May 26, when the mandate from Cotroceni expired.
