Now, as reported by sources from Russia itself, soldiers of Vladimir Putin, who took part in the operation “Potok” (also known as “pipe” – in English her code name is “stream”, which can mean both a stream and a pipeline), they are struggling with serious consequences for health. According to propagandist Anastasia Kaszewarowa, some of them were diagnosed with lung cancer and pulmonary embolism. At the same time, according to Kaszewarowa, the state paid the victims only 100,000. ruble [około 4600 zł] and did not award any decorations.
“100,000 rubles compensation for lung cancer and no awards. In hospitals in Kursk, soldiers were diagnosed” acute medium -sized bronchitis “, they threw them 100,000 rubles like dogs, au soldiers are” pseudo -tone bronchi “turned into lung cancer, into the pulmonary embolism” By pointing out that everyone who took part in the surgery suffered lung damage, and some have already died in the tunnel.
The propagandist is particularly outraged by the fact that these diseases have not been officially recognized as war injuries or serious damage, which excludes the possibility of obtaining compensation or social benefits. Even the relatives of the dead, he claims, cannot count on payments, because the formal cause of death is not combat injuries, but “lung cancer, pulmonary embolism or acute bronchitis”. Kaszewrowa blamed the general staff of the armed forces of the Russian Federation for this situation, which, in her opinion, behaves “unworthy” and “adopted the position:” We did not send them there “.
At the end of April, the deputy head of the Main Military and Political Board of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the Special Forces Commander General Lieutenant Apti Alaudinow also stated that most of the fighters from the “Aida” group who took part in the operation were hospitalized due to serious breathing problems.

Operation “worthy of history textbooks”
The operation of “Potok” was carried out on March 8, 2025. Its purpose was to restore the control of the Russian army over the city of Sudża in the Russian Kurski region, which from August 2024 was under the control of the armed forces of Ukraine. The operation, during which Russian soldiers crawled about 15 km through an unused gas pipeline, was actively promoted by Kremlin propaganda as an example of a military championship “worthy of history textbooks”.
However, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that Ukrainian soldiers had previously known about the prepared operation, as a result of which many Russian soldiers were killed. The pro -Russian channels also reported that some Russian soldiers suffered chemical lung damage, and some have already strangled in the gas pipeline.
Estimates about the number of surgery participants are different. RTVI television, citing the former commander of the Wagner Group, reports that there were about 800 of them. The Ukrainian project Dnipro Osint estimated their number much lower – for about 100 people. The head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Walerij Gierasimow, in turn, claimed that over 600 soldiers took part in the operation.
The Russian forces did not regain control over Suda until March 12, 2025 – after a few months of an active counteroffensive. The success of the Russian troops was largely caused by temporary suspension of intelligence exchange between the USA and Ukraine.
