Europe risks brake on progress in the field of artificial intelligence, if it chooses the path of excessive regulations, warned the general director of Bosch, Stefan Hartung, quoted by Reuters on Wednesday. Basically, says the official, Europe risks suffocating under the burden of their own regulations.

“Europe is unnecessarily delaying the future in the field of AI due to excessive regulation,” Hartung said, at a conference organized by the company in Germany.

According to Hartung, the combination of bureaucracy and strict requirements, but at the same time, makes Europe less attractive for AI development, compared to other regions of the world.

He recommended the legislators to limit themselves to a regulatory framework to cover only the essential aspects. Otherwise “we will regulate until death, because we try to oppose technological progress through regulation,” said Stefan Hartung.

Bosch, who owns a number of AI inventive patents, has announced that he wants to invest another 2.5 billion euros by the end of 2027 in this area.

The German car component supplier also has factories in Romania and develops AI solutions for autonomous driving and increased industrial systems.

Bosch has announced that it aims to reach a sales figure of over 10 billion euros by 2035, with AI solutions for assisted and automated management.
