On Tuesday, the President of Ukraine Wołodymyr Złeski stated that the 18th EU Sanctions Package towards Russia must significantly increase the pressure on the energy and banking sector of this country, as well as to the shadow fleet. Zełenski talked there with NATO boss Marek Rutt, chairwoman of the EC Ursula von der Leyen and the head of Re Antonio Costa.

Zielnski met them in the lobby of the NATO summit starting in the hook.
As he wrote on X, the talks concerned, among others cooperation within the new EU SAFE defense fund and the negotiation process regarding the accession to the EU. Safe – is an EU loan mechanism, which consists of EUR 150 billion. The funds are to be allocated to investments in defense.
The discussion also concerned the future accession of Ukraine to the EU. “It is important that the leaders of the Member States make a joint decision to open the first negotiating cluster. This is unfair when one country blocks the Union's decision,” wrote Zelanski.
He also informed that additional sanctions against the Russian Federation and the preparation of the 18th EU Sanctions Package were discussed in detail.
“This package must significantly increase the pressure on the energy and banking sector of Russia, as well as on the shadow fleet. The key element here must be a strong price ceiling for Russian oil and we count on appropriate decisions. Thank you to the leaders for their support” – he concluded.
18. The sanction package is to cover Nord Stream gas pipelines, more banks, ships from the so -called shadow fleets, as well as a ban on exporting critical products for the development of the Russian arms industry.
