Marius Coman, 23, is the person who lost his life in the tragic accident on Sunday, June 22, on the Sun Highway (A2), in Calarasi county.

He was with the Star Oradea minibaschet team in the bus, which was traveling to Costinesti for the National Baby and Minibaschet festival. The vehicle overturned after the explosion of a tire.
According to the authorities, there were 22 children and 6 adults in the bus. Following the impact, Marius's death was declared. Also, two other children were seriously injured, being taken with SMURD helicopters and transported to the “Grigore Alexandrescu” Hospital.

“With pain in our souls we say goodbye to Marius Coman, the one who was a member of the CSM Oradea Technical Collective. We did not congratulate him for the medals from the U14 team and we were making plans with him for the future of the Oradea basketball. Now, unfortunately, he leaves us too quickly after the terrible accident yesterday (June 22). We pray for his soul, we send condolences to the grieving family and we are with them in these difficult days. Also, our thoughts also go to the other children and components of the staff in the bus. They are under the care of doctors and we pray to return home well“, CSM Oradea said on Facebook.
Marius – a person always willing to get involved
Born on March 12, 2002, in Sighetu Marmaiei, Marius Coman practiced the basketball game organized at the Sports Club in the native locality. He came to Oradea, where he continued to play, and after graduating high school and became a student at the Faculty of Geography, Tourism and Sport in Oradea, he dedicated to the coach. Moreover, in the academic plane, he had just ended the 1st of Master at the specialization of physical education and sports training.
Marius Coman was a second coach of the CSM Oradea team who became a national champion in the male U14 category in season 2024/25. In addition to the activity in the 2011 generation performance group, the young man actively participated in the selection programs in ACS Basketball Schools, but also at the initiation of the youngest to practice the basketball game.
“Everyone who interacted with Marius could find very easily a good soul, a warm man and a person always willing to get involved, to help, to make the activity more efficient. His contributions have not always been rewarded as they should and noted as fully deserved. But we know, all those who interacted with him, that he did not seek”, CSM Oradea also transmitted, in a press release
“The Basketball of Oradea and the local community lose not only a young and dedicated coach, but they remain without a good man, a pleasant character of everyone, whether we are talking about a young man who loves the basketball, his father or his colleagues and collaborators in recent years. Our life becomes poorer without you, Marius“, The club added.
The Romanian Basketball Federation also transmitted condolences to the family. “The young trainer Marius Coman did not reach where he dreamed: among the children, on the playing field, in the heart of the competition“, the representatives of the federation said in an official statement.
