The Fedex founder is dead. He was 80 years old

He was a mentor for many and a source of inspiration for everyone” – wrote Paradise Subramaniam, the current head of Fedex in a letter to employees, which was published on the company's website.

Born in 1944, Smith recently served as the company's executive president and focused on managing management, as well as on issues of global significance, including sustainable development, innovations and public policy, in accordance with its profile on the FEDEX website.
Smith gave way to the position of the general director of Fedex in 2022.and his place was taken by Paradise Subramaniam, who was then the company's operational head.

Smith, who served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam, officially launched the Federal Express in 1973 with 389 team members and 14 small aircraft, which transported 186 packages from Memphis to 25 cities in the USA.
According to the website, Fedex currently includes 705 aircraft, over 200,000 vehicles and about 5,000 operational facilities. Over 500 thousand employees around the world serve about 17 million shipments every day.
