According to sources, the Israeli authorities conducted a “tense” telephone conversation on Thursday with the Trump administration. The Israeli side during the conversation was represented by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, defense minister Israel Kac and the Chief of Staff of the Defense Forces of Israel (IDF) General Ejal ZamiR – said the source in the security services. The Israelis were to declare that they did not want to wait two weeks for Trump's decision regarding the possible joining of the war against Iran.
The sources reported that during the conversation the Vice President of the USA JD Vance said that the US should not be directly involved in the war with Iran and suggested that the Israelis were involved in the country. The head of Pentagon Pete HegeSeth also took part in the conversation – one of the sources donated. Reuters did not determine who was still among the interlocutors.
Israelis maintain that they have a limited window of possibilities when it comes to actions against underground nuclear installations in Fordo in Iran. The US is the only country to have penetrating bombs that could reach this facility.
The source in Washington informed the Reuters agency that Israel informed the US administration that in his opinion two weeks designated by Trump is too long and faster actions are needed. It is not known whether this position was presented during the aforementioned telephone conversation.
Division of Republicans towards an attack on Iran
The possibility for the USA to carry out an attack on Iran exposed the divisions in the coalition of Trump's supporters – the agency emphasized. Some prominent representatives of his electorate urge him not to engage the country in a new war in the Middle East. Some Republicans, including Senator Lindsey Graham, express the hope that Trump will help Israel to destroy the Iranian nuclear program.
Reuters reminded that Vance has repeatedly criticized American involvement in foreign conflicts, including in Iraq and Afghanistan. In recent days, the vice president has published an entry in social media in which he rejected critical voices to the president. Israel can attack Fordo on its own
Netanyahu did not rule out that Israel could attack Fordo independently, but it is not known how such an attack could take place and what its results would be. According to four sources, it is more and more likely that Israel will start an independent military operation against this object.
