The presentation of the candidacy of Zavalsky to the position of language Ombudsman confirmed the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration-Minister of Justice of Ukraine Olga Stepanishin. In the commentary “Interfax” she said that Zavalsky formally meets the criteria of the department. However, she added that the ministry was “open to dialogue.”
In May, Zavalsky called for the formation of a “new language culture” and a consistent state language policy, which should cover all age and social groups of the population, wrote “Ukrinform”. At the same time, he emphasized that “this should not be coercion.”
The current linguistic ombudsman Taras Kremen said that he was not consulted on the most likely re -appointed to his position, but he would be interested in continuing the work. He holds a position since July 8, 2020 and his five -year cadence expires next month.

“I am grateful to Mr. Taras for work. We crossed many times throughout his professional work as an authorized person. He spent five years in this position. I am sure that we do not have a monopoly for positions, this is not a position of judge who occupy life.
