On Wednesday, MEP Braun destroyed plaques that are part of the exhibition in the Sejm, devoted to the issues of the rights of LGBT persons, by the Association “Tęczowe Opole”. As a result of these actions in the evening, Marshal Szymon Hołownia reported on platform X that Braun was banned from entering parliament. He emphasized that “there is no place for hooligans in the Sejm.”

The European analytical collective report shows that the event aroused great interest in social media, reaching a range of 80 million views. This means that the average user has repeatedly encountered the content related to the incident. The authors of the report emphasized that the topic was promoted mainly by people with right -wing views and supporters of Grzegorz Braun. Particularly strong, above all positive reactions, were noted among men aged 25-45.

Prof. Monika Kaczmarek-Śliwińska, an expert in ethics and communication with the University of Warsaw, asked by PAP about how Grzegorz Braun's deeds can affect his image, indicated the relationship between two groups of recipients.

“In people sympathizing with Braun, such an attitude will seem consistent with the earlier image. Thus, it will be another” brick in the Grzegorz Braun building “” – she noted.

She added that it would be positively assessed in this group of recipients as consistent and consistent.

The expert pointed out that in the case of people with high sensitivity, openness and respect for the LGBT community, these activities will be criticized and considered unacceptable and requiring categorical assessment as well as punishment. “These generally indicated two attitudes show very extreme image assessments, and also indicate a strong polarization,” she added.

As she said, many factors influence social polarization. One of them is activity such as the destruction of plaques devoted to LGBT issues, which to people sympathizing with Grzegorz Braun indicates their space, digging in their beliefs, but also lack of openness to discussion and exchange of views.

“It can therefore be said that the same aggressive acts that we have seen many times in the activities of Grzegorz Braun polarize socially” – emphasized Kaczmarek -Śliwińska.

The expert pointed out that each such act is a form of drawing and focusing the attention of the media. Kaczmarek-Śliwińska distinguished two schools that the media can use in response to such events. One of them is not informing about negative actions and not disproportionate similarly aggressive activities. However, the second is based on informing and explaining to the recipients what happened. It involves showing the context, talking about the situations of excluded and attacked communities, as well as pointing to legal sanctions threatening to this type of action. “I definitely tend to a second school, which through education can influence public awareness, and thus contribute to reducing polarization,” she emphasized.

The RES Futura report shows that the destruction of the boards of the “Rainbow Opole” Association by Grzegorz Braun prompted Internet users to undermine the presence of the LGBT community in public space. 29 percent Comments concern the very presence of the exhibition in the Sejm – its meaning and, according to some Internet users of its “provocative” character. 24 percent Mention focuses on the behavior of MEP and interpretation of this act. There are both allegations of vandalism and reading it as a “performance”.

Some recipients believe that “Braun showed courage.” There are also comments about freedom of speech – these include 15 percent. references. Internet users are arguing about whether Braun's actions were a form of protection or violation of civic freedom. 13 percent The reaction of network users speaks of the decision of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia and the lack of reaction of the Marshal's service. In turn, 9 percent Comments is a debate, whether LGBT is ideology.

Emotions such as anger (32 percent) are dominated in the entries about the Brauna event, which is expressed both to Braun's behavior and LGBT exhibition. Comments also have contempt (20 percent) directed against opponents or supporters of the politician. Reactions of recipients are marked with fear (14 percent), joy – among Braun supporters (12 percent) and powerlessness (8 percent).

The most repetitive phrases and markings dominate: “bravo Braun”, “Vandalism”, “The Sejm is not a place for LGBT”, “Deviation promotion”, “in defense of values.”

This is not the first incident involving Braun in the Sejm of this term – in December 2023, the MP extinguished the commemorative Chanka's world set up in the Sejm; In April last year He heard allegations in this matter. In April, Braun – as a presidential candidate – went to a hospital in Oleśnica, where a patient from Łódź decided to conduct an abortion in the 36th week of pregnancy due to health threat to carry out the “civic detention” of Gizela Jagielska, a gynecolorgea performing legal abortions.
