Priorities of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan: “Let's put orders in the country's finances”. Negotiations with the leaders of the parties for ensuring a guest majority

The main priorities of Ilie Bolojan, the new prime minister appointed by President Nicuşor Dan, are the negotiations with the political parties to ensure a parliamentary majority, but also a possible VAT increase, from 19 to 21%.

“I am aware of the great responsibility that I assume, because of the difficult situation in which our country is found, as an effect of the long budgetary crisis. Starting this afternoon, I will continue the discussions with the political parties to ensure a parliamentary majority, for the finalization of the Government and the Government Program,” said Ilie Bolojan, immediately after being appointed prime minister by President Nicușor Dan.

Bolojan also announced that it will have three main priorities: “Let's put order in the country's finances, work for a good governance and show due respect to the Romanians. ”

And I know that it will not be an easy enterprise, but I am convinced that together with our Romanian people, and Romania rests on a good road”, Declared Prime Minister Bolojan.

On Thursday, June 19, Ilie Bolojan warned Nicușor Dan that he did not accept to be prime minister if the head of state refuses the VAT to 21%. The reason invoked by the president is that he gave in writing in the election campaign that the VAT will not increase in his mandate.

Who is Ilie Bolojan

Ilie Gavril Bolojan was born on March 17, 1969, in Vadu Crișului, Bihor county, according to https://bolojan.wordpress.com/.

Ilie Gavril Bolojan is a member of the National Liberal Party (PNL). Between 1996 and 2004 he was a local councilor of the city of Aleșd, then a member of the Bihor County Council (2004-2005). He was mayor of Oradea (2008-2020) and president of the Bihor County Council (October 19, 2020 – January 1, 2025).

From November 25, 2024, he is interim president of the PNL.

Following the parliamentary elections of 2024, he obtained a mandate of senator, and on December 23, 2024, he was elected as president of the Senate.

Ilie Bolojan took over the position of interim president on February 12, 2025, as a result of the resignation of Klaus-Werner Iohannis from the position of president of Romania.

He resumed the mandate of president of the Senate on May 26, 2025, after handing over the mandate of the state of Nicușor Dan.
