Putin announced that Moscow is ready to have substantive talks on the principles of peace agreement. He added that the next meeting of negotiating teams is possible after June 22 and it is important to guarantee that the next leader of Ukraine will not undermine the agreements concluded with his country.
The Russian leader decided that the claims that Russia planned to attack NATO are nonsense and are distributed by Western politicians to deceive taxpayers and force them to issue more funds for defense.
“Trump calculates well”
He noted that his country is not a threat to NATO and does not consider the arms plans of the Alliance as a threat to Russia. “The decision to use force in Ukraine does not mean that Moscow is planning an attack on Eastern Europe,” said Putin, quoted by the Reuters agency.
Putin also said that US President Donald Trump is right when he says that the war against Ukraine would not have taken place if Trump had power in the United States in 2022. Commenting on relationships with Trump, he noted that their potential meeting should be well prepared and bring positive results.
“It's good that Trump is a businessman, he calculates well,” Putin said. The leader of Russia also expressed the hope that Washington would take steps to restore relations with Moscow.
The Russian leader also stated that he is ready to talk to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, but he doubts that Germany could be an intermediary in talks with Ukraine. He added that the sending of Taurus maneuvering missiles to Ukraine would mean the country's direct involvement in the war, but would not stop the procession of Russian troops.
