The second biggest employer in the world warned his employees that jobs are in danger because of artificial intelligence: “It is difficult to say exactly what the result will be”

One of the largest companies in the world tells its office employees that their jobs are in danger because of artificial intelligence, marking a rare and explicit warning from a top technology director that you will lead to redundancies, CNBC and Financial Times reports.
Andy Jassy, the general manager of Amazon, told the employees on Tuesday, in an internal letter, that the company implements artificial intelligence throughout its activity, especially in the logistics network, to reduce the costs.
He said that Amazon wants to expand his use, which will mean job loss.
“We will need fewer people to do some of the tasks that are performed today, and more people to do other types of activities,” Jassy said. “It is difficult to say exactly what will be the net result in time, but in the next few years, we expect this to reduce the total number of our employees in the corporation.”
The document comes in the context in which Amazon and other companies in “Big Tech” are under the pressure of investors to prove that they can obtain winnings from huge investments in artificial intelligence.
In the specific case of Amazon, the largest electronic trade company in the world, it also faces threats because of the unpredictable commercial policies of US President Donald Trump.
“Amazon has over 1.5 million employees around the world.”
The price of Amazon shares decreased by about 2.5% this year. With a market capitalization of $ 2.2 trillion, but it remains the fourth most valuable company in the world, behind only A Microsoft (3.55 trillion), Nvidia (3.51 trillion) and Apple (2.9 trillion).
According to the statist, Amazon has over 1.5 million employees or collaborators around the world in 2025. The company founded by Jeff Bezos is the second largest private employer in the world after Walmart.
The conglomerate based in Seattle has committed to invest about $ 100 billion in the current financial year, most of which are intended for AI infrastructure
Amazon competes with two other major technological companies in the US, Google and Microsoft, to take the driving in the development of AI and to support its “rapid expansion engine” – Amazon Web Services.
Amazon fired nearly 30,000 employees in 2023
Jassy said last year that the company aims to “eliminate bureaucracy” and adopt a more “flat” structure, with fewer medium level managers. The group eliminated 27,000 positions in two major redness rounds in 2023, while Amazon Web Services reduced several hundred stations in 2024.
Matt Gacman, the Amazon Web Services CEO, also warned employees last summer that including software programmers and engineers could be forced to reorient and develop new skills as you take on more and more tasks related to code writing.
“If you look at what will be over 24 months ago or over a certain period of time-they cannot predict exactly how much it is-most developers may not write code,” he told his subordinates Gacan, in June, the month in which he became CEO of Amazon Services.
He made comments behind closed doors during an informal meeting with employees.
Alarm signal on the danger represented by AI for office employees
The directors of the technology companies have been largely reluctant to publicly say that you will lead to dismissions, preferring to emphasize the increase of these models.
A notable exception was the Dario Amodei, the CEO of AI Anthropic, which sounded an alarm at the end of last month on the danger that this technology represents for office employees.
AMODEI said in an interview with Axios that companies working on the development of AI and governments must cease to “sweete” what follows and explain to people that there is the possibility of mass elimination in technology, finance, consultancy and other professions with white collar, especially entry-level positions.
“Most of them are not aware that this is about to happen,” he said for Axios. “It sounds crazy, and people simply do not believe,” he said.
