The former deputy minister of finance died, a former member of the Monetary Policy Council, professor at the University of Economics in Krakow (UEK) prof. Jan Czekaj – the university informed on Tuesday.


According to the biography published by UEK, Jan Czekaj in 1973 graduated from the University of Economics in Krakow. He then defended his doctorate and habilitation. In 2003 he received the title of professor of economic sciences. At his home university, which later changed its name to the University of Economics, and today it functions as the University of Economics, Czekaj held various positions – from an adjunct to managerial functions. He was, among others Head of the Capital Market Plant, Director of the Research Center for the Financial Sector. He also worked as an assistant professor in the Institute of Finance in Warsaw. He also became a professor at the Małopolska University of Economics in Tarnów and at the College of Economics and Computer Science in Krakow.
In the 1990s he was part of the Warsaw Stock Exchange Council, he was an uprising of the state in the Ministry of Ownership, he sat on the Securities and Exchange Commission. He was also a member of the Supervisory Board of Export Credit Corporation and chaired the Supervisory Board of the Przemysłowo-Handlowe Bank.
He became deputy finance minister in 2002 and held this function for a year. Among his positions after 2000 are also: Deputy Chairman of the Banking Supervision Commission and the Insurance Supervision and Pension Funds Committee. From 2003 to 2010 he sat on the Monetary Policy Council.
He is the author of publications in the field of economic sciences, devoted to the functioning of the capital market, management of enterprise finances and processes of centrally planned economy transformation.
The professor's funeral will take place on June 25 at the Rakowicki Cemetery. (PAP)
