The Pentagon announced on Tuesday about the inclusion of Greenland in the area of Northcom responsibility (Northcom), dealing with the security of North America. Until now, the island was under the supervision of the European Command (EUCOM).

As the spokesman of the Pentagon Sean Parnell said, the change is the result of the decision of President Donald Trump and aims to “strengthen the ability of the combined forces to defend the US territory, contributing to the more solid defense of the Western hemisphere and deepen relations with allies and partners in the Arctic.”
According to Politico, It is from Trump's side “the most complex step so far in months of efforts to get Greenland.” This movement could also mean the possibility of placing more radars on the island as part of the “Golden Dome” anti -missile shield created by the USA.
The Northcom area has so far covered North America, and the main tasks of the command included the defense of the US territory. Command soldiers also take part in actions to secure the US border with Mexico, and were also directed to Los Angeles to support the cleaning services in the face of riots.
Trump has repeatedly said that he wanted to take over Greenland, that it is necessary for the security of the country and did not rule out the use of force. The head of Pentagon Pete HegeSth suggested during the June hearing in the House of Representatives that his army had plans for armed island.
