The deputy head of the Ministry of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka on Tuesday at the Maritime University of Gdynia emphasized that a decision was made regarding the construction of the successor to “Dar of Youth”. In his opinion, the construction of a new ship will allow the tradition of maritime education to continue.

The deputy minister took part in the celebrations of the 105th anniversary of the creation of maritime education in Poland, which took place at the Maritime University in Gdynia.
Tuesday's celebrations refer to the events of June 17, 1920, when the Minister of Military Affairs General Józef Leśniewski signed an order to create a maritime school in Tczew, from which the history of the Maritime University in Gdynia began.
Rector of the university prof. Adam Weintrrit emphasized that the time of establishment of the university was not favorable, because students went to the Polish-Bolshevik war, and returned to the university in December 1920. He reminded that in this connection, the university festival is celebrated twice a year – in June and December, in memory of the events from 105 years ago.
The rector reminded that in the coming years the university plans to build a successor to “Dar of Youth”. “It is too early to indicate the date when the new ship is launched, but it will probably happen after the end of my rector's term,” he assessed.
He noted that the construction of a new ship is a historical decision. “In over 100 years of the university's history, only four times this took place (…) Through the internships at sea, in a sailing ship, students are to gain respect for the sea and learn teamwork. I remind you that the best maritime universities in the world educate their students in this way” – he added.
The deputy head of Mi Arkadiusz Marchewka, who was present at the ceremony, noted that the Maritime University of Gdynia educates outstanding professionals who are our showcase around the world. “At the Ministry of Infrastructure, we are aware that investment in learning and investment in education is the best investment, which is why we decided to build a successor to the” youth gift “for the university,” he said.
Carrot emphasized that the announcement regarding the construction of a new ship is “an extremely important step so that we can continue the tradition of maritime education.” He noted that before the ministry and university a number of formalities related to formalities, but “the decision was made”.
At the end of January this year. The Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak announced that a decision was made to build a new school sailing ship to replace “Dar Młodzieży”. According to preliminary estimates, its construction is to cost about PLN 300 million.
The gift of young people is a three-passed frigate, a school sailing ship of the Maritime University in Gdynia, which continues the tradition of two predecessors: “Lviv”-a sailing ship of pioneering years, when Tczew was the seat of the maritime school and “Dar Pomorza”-“White Frigate”, serving the training of marine staff for the white and red Bandera in 1930–1982.
It is also the first sailing ship built in the Polish shipyard, according to the original Polish project, from scratch as a sailing school unit. (PAP)
