Only two out of three Romanians in category 20-64 have a job. Larger or more Romanians at work, this is also a question for the budget

When it comes to the budget, Romania seems to be caught in a game of “who tightens the strap”: the state or taxpayer? But if, instead of counting our holes in the belt, would we try to add more Romanians to the lunch of the economy? After all, the more payment we are, the lower the payment note for each one.
Recent data does not let us dream with open eyes: in the first quarter of 2025, only 68.7% of Romanians between 20 and 64 had a job, announces the National Institute of Statistics, and if we look at the rest of Europe, we are at the tail of the platoon.
It's like the marathon: we run, but at the tail of the group we are, with the unraveled lace and with the thought of the hydration break.
Why not everyone enter the field? Two reasons are clear: on the one hand, we have whole teams of players who are on the bench, from vulnerable categories: women, young people, poorly qualified people, disabled, Roma community. In these categories, unemployment is predominantly higher than the average.
Then, some Romanians play on other stadiums, not their fault, either outside the country, or stay home in subsistence agriculture. And the non -qualification is a big problem.
In Romanians with elementary studies the unemployment reached 55%
The figures are grieving: only 45.1% of those with elementary studies work, and unemployment in young people is at quotas of the Champions League, only we do not enjoy the trophy.
Women, although they play in the national team of family care, do not get to enter the field of the Labor Market, especially when the nurseries and kindergartens are rarer than the goals in an arranged match.
The problem is systemic, and the solutions must be tailor -made. If we want to not remain without players in the decades that come, we must invest in serious workouts: education, re -qualification, digitalization.
Let's not forget more nurseries, policies that flexibly the balance-life balance, and, why not, a gallery to encourage them. For vulnerable groups, dedicated coaches are needed, not just empty stands.
Confucius said to give the man a wave, not a fish. We say: give the man the professional framework of a job, not unemployment help coming from an extra tax.
Increasing the number of taxpayers
The investment in human capital is not only an economic strategy, but also a social play-play: several active players means more goals, more budget points and a national team that does not play for defense or offside.
Instead of always running after tax increases, it may be time to change the tactic: to increase the number of taxpayers and to stimulate productivity, not to argue who pays more at the break.
Einstein is attributed to the quote: “We cannot solve the problems using the same mentality that I used when we created.” In other words, you cannot win new matches with old tactics. So, let's not look at today's score table, but to build a team for the future.
What do you say, do we change the strategy and give the whole team on the field? Because, indeed, nothing is stronger than an idea of which it has come. It is time not to lose the economic match before it starts.
