The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Peter Szijjarto, said on Sunday that the Budapest government will use all possible means to counteract the “von der Leyen – Zelenski Plan” in the field of energy, which the Hungarian official claims that, in case of implementation, he will “ruin” the Evidence in Central Europe and will give the European economy, Agerpres.
Szijjarto spoke for the public radio station of Hungary on the eve of the meeting that energy ministers from the EU states will have on Monday and to which the ban on Russian energy will be discussed. The Hungarian minister claims that gas prices in Europe are double or triple compared to the United States, while electricity prices are four or five times higher than in China.
He put these “very high” prices on account of the “failed sanction policies” of Brussels. According to the Hungarian Foreign Minister, since the beginning of the war, the Ukrainians have tried to cause the EU to sanction Russian energy, such as gas, oil and nuclear fuel.
Peter Szijjarto has accused the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, of “provoking extreme damage” of the European Union in recent years and supporting the Ukrainian President, Volodimir Zelenski, to an unprecedented extent, and an element of this support was, he claims, forcing Hungarians to pay more to Ukraine.
At the same time, the head of the Hungarian Dipolma accused of “hypocrisy” on the ministers of energy that “made great statements” in the margin of the meetings, before “returning to the generally accepted position” in the meeting room. Slovaks could be the exception, said Szijjarto, adding that he spoke to his Slovak counterpart several times during the previous week.
“The von der Leyen – Zelensky plan will create serious problems and risks not only for Hungary, but also for the energy supply of Slovakia,” says Peter Szijjarto.
Szijjarto: Hungary and Slovakia, common position against the plan
The head of Hungarian diplomacy claims that at the Monday meeting, where he expects a “wild fight”, Hungary and Slovakia will adopt a common position against the plan.
According to the minister, the “champions of democracy and the rule of law” in Brussels “flagrantly violate” European regulations, even after putting the Hungarian regulations “under the microscope” for 15 years.
He believes that the energy mix of EU states is a matter of national sovereignty and no one, “neither Brussels nor Kiev”, can impose Hungary from where, how and at what price to get their energy.
Peter Szijjarto argues that the disguise of sanction policies in commercial measures is an “shameless violation” of European norms and shows “contempt for the will of the Member States,” he said.
The energy supply of Hungary is “technically impossible” without the Russian deliveries, said Szijjarto, who says it is a “physical, not political” issue.
Peter Szijjarto claims that a “brutal” increase of prices will be produced if Hungary will be deprived of energy deliveries in Russia.
