At the session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, its chairwoman Robert Metsool announced on Monday that she received another application to repeal the immunity of Polish MEP Grzegorz Braun. It was directed to the legal committee of the European Parliament.

At the beginning of June, the Prosecutor General Adam Bodnar submitted a request for consent to bring Braun's criminal liability. It concerns suspected Braun's committing six crimes.
It goes (as the prosecutor's office previously informed), among others for deprivation of liberty, violation of bodily integrity, insulting and slander of the doctor Gizela Jagielska in April 2025 at the Poviat Hospital Team in Oleśnica.
Braun is also accused of public calling on the Internet “for hatred against the background of religious differences” and the offense of paintings of religious feelings, “by giving an interview made available on the YouTube platform regarding, among others, the use of, among others, the use on December 12, 2023 in the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, the firefighting fishermen in order to extinguish the chanu candle issued there.”
In this interview – in the context of this event – Braun, according to the prosecutor's office, included a statement expressing approval and encouraging viewers and listeners to undertake this type of behavior, and also described Chanuka as a manifestation of satanic and racist celebration poseing a threat to Polish Catholics.
The last allegation concerns the destruction of ten posters in Opole on March 18, 2025 “by applying black paint of letters, which fully form the inscription:” Stop propaganda of perversion “.
In May, the European Parliament lifted Braun's immunity in voting in Strasbourg. This matter was, among others for an investigation into the extinguishing of Hanukkah candles in the Sejm, but also a number of other incidents.
PE decides to repeal immunity by an ordinary majority of votes. Before the case goes to the vote, he is discussed by MPs of the PE of the PE. This commission prepares in any case a report in which it recommends voting “for” or “against”.
The revocation of immunity does not mean the recognition of the MEP guilty, but only enables national court authorities to investigate or trial. PE deputies are elected in accordance with the National Electoral Code, so if they are found guilty of committing a crime, the decision to annul their mandate belongs to the authorities of the Member State.
