Revenue growth and new PGE projects. This is how an energy leader copes

Sales revenues achieved by the PGE Group in the period in question amounted to PLN 17.453 billion and were slightly higher than last year, when they reached PLN 17.167 billion. However, a slight decline was recorded in gross profit on sales, which amounted to PLN 3.749 billion compared to PLN 3.86 billion a year earlier. A similar trend concerned operating profit – from January to March 2026 it reached PLN 3.032 billion, while in the corresponding period of the previous year it was PLN 3.26 billion.

Net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company amounted to PLN 1.938 billion in the first quarter of 2026. A year earlier, this indicator was higher and reached PLN 2.416 billion. In the press release sent on Tuesday, the company drew attention to the recurring EBITDA profit, which reached PLN 4.137 billion. The company also emphasized that the financial and operational results obtained are consistent with previously published estimates.
Gas units in Rybnik and Gryfino
— The beginning of the year brought a number of important investment decisions in the PGE Group, including the continuation of the development of gas technologies. In January, we selected the contractor for the OCGT gas units in Rybnik and Gryfino, and in March we signed appropriate contracts, officially starting the construction of two new power plants. At the same time, we are expanding the Renewable Energy Segment, in which, thanks to the acquisition of the Dzwola wind farm with a capacity of 35 MW, we have increased our onshore capacity to 832 MW – said Dariusz Lubera, president of PGE.
The Distribution Segment had the greatest impact on recurring EBITDA, generating PLN 1.477 billion compared to PLN 1.319 billion a year earlier. This result was mainly due to the lower cost of purchasing electricity to cover the balance difference, as well as the increase in the volume of distributed energy. The group's economic net debt at the end of the first quarter of 2026 reached PLN 15.28 billion, which means a decrease of PLN 529 million compared to the end of 2025.
Net generation in the PGE segment
The group's generating units produced 16.49 TWh of net electricity in the first quarter of 2026. A year earlier, this result was 16.08 TWh, which means an increase of 3%. rdr. The company also presented detailed data on individual generation sources.
7.7 TWh of energy produced came from lignite, which means a decrease of 10%. on an annual basis. In the case of hard coal, production reached 4.64 TWh and was 10% higher. y/y, while production from natural gas amounted to 3.27 TWh, growing by 31%. rdr. Total production from renewable sources reached 0.62 TWh, and pumped storage power plants generated 0.26 TWh, an increase of 37%. year to year.
The volume of distributed electricity amounted to 11.49 TWh and was 7%. higher than the year before. The sale of energy to final consumers reached 8.07 TWh, which means a decrease by 6%. rdr. In turn, the volume of heat sales in the first quarter of 2026 amounted to 23.65 PJ, growing by 13%. compared to the same period of the previous year.
CO2 emission costs and wholesale energy prices
The average cost of carbon dioxide emissions in the Coal Energy, District Heating and Gas Energy Segments reached PLN 288 per MWh, which means an increase of 2%. on an annual basis. The wholesale energy price realized by the same segments amounted to PLN 513 per MWh on average and was higher by PLN 9 per MWh, i.e. also by 2%. year to year.
