Attacks in the homes of politicians in the suburbs of Minneapolis occurred on the night of Friday to Saturday. The perpetrator first shot Senator John Hoffman and his wife several times, and then went to the home of the Democrats leader in the House of Representatives of the State Minnesot, Melissa Hortman, killing her and her husband. There was also an exchange of fire with the police, but the murderers managed to escape.
According to the state authorities, the perpetrator was dressed in a police uniform and had a political manifesto and a list of targets to the attack on which there were democrat politicians. The police claimed that they had reason to think that the perpetrator – who escaped and is intensively wanted – planned an assassination at the Saturday protest against Trump. In his car – reminiscent of a police car – leaflets were found with the slogan “No Kings” (“No kings”), i.e. the slogan of demonstrations taking place on Saturday throughout the country.
Protests in Minneapolis and the surrounding area were canceled, and the Governor of the Minnesota Tim Walz state advised people to participate in demonstrations.
“I was informed about a terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which seems to be a deliberate attack on state legislators. Our prosecutor general PAM Bondi and FBI are investigating the situation and will pursue everyone involved with all the rawness of law. Such a terrible violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America” – Trump wrote on his Truth Social social networking site.
