TIFF.24 Until Movies at TIFF

Hotnews correspondence, Dana Coțovanu, transmits from TIFF, the largest film festival in Romania, reached the 24th edition, which runs June 13-22 in Cluj-Napoca.

Cluj-Napoca becomes again the capital of cinema in Romania. A number of 200 long and short films were selected from over 1,000 for this edition of the festival. The films addresses topics such as the unrelated love, the war without final, dilemmas about identity, the impact of society and self -acceptance, such as generative conflicts.

Seven Films To Ten For TIFF

1. Christy (2025), directed by Brendan Canty

On the first day it will be the projection of the film “Sometimes we heal through stories and empathy. Christy (2025) directed by Brendan Canty. It is an Irish-British dramatic film about two step-brothers in the Cork Social Placement System, and the challenges encountered after Christy, 17 years old, leaves the system and arrives in the market. 2. The worlds to come (1936), directed by William Cameron Menzies

Part of the section “Focus Estonia” from TIFF.24, “The Black Hole (The Black Hole)” explores with absurd humor the bizarre effects of an extraterrestrial visit to a group of eccentric characters. Both the projection of Saturday, June 14, at 8:45 pm, from the Military Circle, as well as the Sunday, June 15, at 12:00, from Cinema Arta, will be followed by a Q&A with the director Moonika Simeets.

6. “Marco, Truth invented” (2024), directed by Aior ARREGI

“Marco, the truth invented (Marco The Inventd Truth) tells Enric Marco's incredible story, a charismatic impostor who claimed to have survived the Holocaust, becoming a national symbol until the lie was unmasked by a historian. At the projection on Sunday, June 16, at 6:30 pm, at the Student Culture House, you will be able to meet them at the Q&A session after the directors Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño and the actor Eduard Fernández, who won the Goya prize for the lead role.

7. You are my world (2024), directed by Pavlo Ostrikov

In the near future, after the earth is destroyed, a Ukrainian left alone in space discovers a mysterious signal from a woman on a distant station and starts in a risky mission to find it. It is the story of the film you are my world (u has the universe), which you can see in the presence of director Pavlo Ostrikov both on Saturday, June 14, at 9:45 pm, at Iulius Park Open Air, as well as Sunday, June 15, at 12:15, at Sapientia University.

The first evening of tiff

The evening of opening TIFF 2025 honored one of the emblem actors of the Romanian theater and film, Florin Piersic, who received the Prize of Excellence for over 65 years of artistic career.

The red carpet event took place in the Unirii Square in Cluj-Napoca and was preceded by the projection of the film Christy (r. Brendan Canty), scheduled at 8:45 pm, in the presence of the film team, including the director and the guest of honor, the laureate of the Oscar Danis Tanović Award.

Individual tickets cost 28 lei for a standard projection, 25 lei for morning or outdoor projections, 60 lei for the opening or closing gala and 50 lei for who-confreres (except for special events). The full day program can be consulted here, and tickets can be purchased here.
