Russia's attacks cut off the Republic of Moldova's main electrical link with Europe. President Maia Sandu's announcement

The Isaccea – Vulcănești power line is disconnected from the night of Monday to Tuesday, following the drone attacks. The operators of the transport systems in Romania and Ukraine put alternative supply routes into operation, write Ziarul de Gardă and Agerpres.
The Russian attacks during the night on the energy infrastructure in Ukraine interrupted the main electrical link of Moldova with Europe, President Maia Sandu said on Tuesday.
“There are alternative routes, but the situation remains complicated. Russia is solely responsible,” she said in a statement published on the X platform.
Russia's strikes on civilian energy infrastructure in Ukraine are a war crime — and an attack on all of us. Overnight strikes disconnected Moldova's key power link with Europe. Alternative routes are in place, but the situation remains fragile. Russia alone bears responsibility.

And the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks on the energy infrastructure in Ukraine.
“These actions undermine regional energy security and endanger critical civilian infrastructure. The Republic of Moldova reaffirms its firm support for Ukraine and condemns any attack on civilian infrastructure,” reads a message sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Border Police, quoted by Ziarul de Gardă, informed that the national airspace was not violated following the attacks.
The Isaccea – Vulcănești line is disconnected
The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Moldova announced in turn that the Isaccea – Vulcănești power line is disconnected from the night of Monday to Tuesday, following drone attacks during the night on the energy infrastructure in the southern part of Ukraine, writes Agerpres.
To maintain the electricity supply of the Republic of Moldova, during the night Moldelectrica, in coordination with the operators of the transport systems in Romania and Ukraine, put into operation alternative supply routes, including the 4 interconnection lines of 110kV between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
The faults are being rectified, Moldelectrica, the operator of the transport system, informed Moldpres.
Moldelectrica explained that it has identified technical problems on the line, and the intervention works require specialized teams and coordination with the system operators in Ukraine and Romania.
According to the source, in parallel with the remedial works, measures are being applied to ensure the continuity of the electricity supply to consumers, so that the impact on the population and the economy is minimal.
Moldelectrica mentioned that the restoration process depends on the complexity of technical interventions and cross-border cooperation, without indicating, for now, an exact term for the completion of the works.
In this context, consumers are urged to use electricity responsibly, especially during peak hours, to reduce pressure on networks.
Power outage in January
On January 31, the Republic of Moldova went through a massive power outage, which affected more than two thirds of the territory, including an important part of the capital Chisinau.
The incident was caused by a breakdown in Ukraine's electrical network, which led to a voltage drop on the Isaccea-Vulcănești-Centrala line from Cuciurgan, the main electricity import route for the Republic of Moldova.
The Isaccea-Vulcănești line represents a key element of the energy interconnection with Romania and plays an important role in ensuring the stability of the electricity system of the Republic of Moldova, especially in the current regional conditions, notes Moldpres.
