Hidroelectrica says he cannot guarantee that he will still have the lowest price. “We will also have to adapt to the market conditions”

Hidroelectrica says, in a response to Hotnews, that it does not produce enough energy to take over all domestic consumers in Romania. This is after, a few days ago, the company announced that it is ready to take over all energy consumers who want to change their supplier.
Hidroelectrica is the company which, at this moment, has the best offer on the market, before the total liberalization of the electricity market, from July 1.
If a contract with Hidroelectrica for the period after July 1, the consumer would pay 77 lei per month, with 52% in addition to now.
Asked Hotnews if he can guarantee that he will still have the lowest price in the market, Hidroelectrica says he cannot offer such guarantees, but “we find ourselves in a situation more predictable.”
In the answers to Hotnews, Hidroelectrica also says that the situation in which she will have to buy energy from other companies in the market to deliver the population can occur at any time.
“10,000-11,000 requests per day”
The company representatives did not say how many requests are received during this period, specifying that there is commercial information. However, this revealed this general manager, Karoly Borbely, on a conference on Thursday: it is about 10,000-11,000 applications per day.
This means twice as many requests in one day than the average number of contracts concluded by the company in a whole month last year.
HotNews.ro: How many applications for contracts did you receive in May and June (breakdown)?
Hidroelectrica: In the 2 months, we register an increase in contracting requests from both domestic and non -home customers.
Given that we are active in a liberalized market, commercial strategies, customer portfolio information, price policy is influenced by a number of economic and market factors. We mention that we can respond to your requests insofar as they refer to information already disseminated to the public.
-How many were from domestic consumers and how many non-casual consumers?
– Currently, the number of requests for contracts from domestic customers far exceeds the number of requests received from non -home customers.
Porting in 10 minutes
– On average how many requests for conclusion contracts did you receive last year per month?
– household contracts: 5,362, non -casual contracts: 496
.
– The process of migration of customers is carried out through several channels made available to them, as follows:
- Online Contracting Portal – about 10 minutes
- Customer Relations Points – About 15 minutes
- In case the customers send the complete documentation necessary for the contracting process, the response time for the requests sent to the e-mail addresses made available to the customers can vary from 3 to 5 working days.

Hydroelectric's energy production does not cover the entire consumption of domestic customers
– How many consumers can you feed maximum with the energy you produce?
– Theoretically we cannot provide electricity for all domestic consumers in Romania only from their own production, for example in 2024 when Hidroelectrica production was 13,860 GWH, final household consumers consumed 13,907 GWh, according to ANRE.
We specify that there are sufficient time intervals within a calendar year in which Hidroelectrica energy production is well below the needs of domestic customers.
At the same time, being an electricity supplier we have the obligation to have available offers for industrial (non-casual) consumers, whose consumptions are much higher than those who are majority in our supply portfolio.
In conclusion, we cannot carry a maximum number of consumers because it depends, first of all, on their average consumption, we do not believe that all domestic consumers will want to migrate to Hidroelectrica. Certainly, in the case of massive customer migrations to Hidroelectrica, to alleviate this effect, the other suppliers will re -evaluate their offers, in the sense of diminishing them.
We anticipated this increase in the number of customers who want to move to Hidroelectrica and we have prepared, both through our online contracting portal, but also through customer relations points, to take over customers to conclude an electricity supply contract with Hidroelectrica.
Hydroelectrica can CALL to the purchase of energy from the market
– What is the solution you will adopt when the energy demand from Hidroelectrica customers will be higher than the company's production?
– First of all, we want to point out that we are constantly analyzing the number of requests received from all both domestic and non -home customers.
In order to honor the existing contracts, but also to provide a competitive price on the market, Hidroelectrica can resort to the purchase of electricity from external sources to the company in case we identify this necessity. The risk of not having sufficient energy at certain time intervals for honoring all contracts, both in the segment of supplying electricity and production is permanently in our attention. We strengthen the message that, at present, this risk is not yet manifested, with sufficient resources for taking over new customers.
– How did Hidroelectrica prepare for a wave of requests for contracts, estimated for this period and for the period after liberalization?
– In the context of increasing the number of requests received from the clients, we extended the program of the customer relations point in Bucharest as follows:
- Monday – Thursday: 10:00 – 16:00
- Friday: 10:00 – 12:00
At the same time, our teams carefully monitor the contracting portals made available to the customers.
The new plants that will be put into operation will lead to lowering prices throughout the market, the company officials estimate
– How can you guarantee that you will still have the lowest price in the market?
– No one can offer such guarantees, we will also have the rest of the actors in the energy market to adapt to the market conditions, the energy market in Romania being quite complicated in recent years due to the non -existence of sufficient capacities of electricity production.
Thus we find ourselves in the situation of being more predictable from the perspective of the existence of the quantities of electricity available to be provided to our customers, the risk of taking over the price of energy market in the offers to customers being lower, based so far on our own production, only a smaller amount of energy provided from the company.
We consider instead that the new production capacities announced in order to be put into operation in Romania in the next period will bring an additional amount of energy in the market that will lead to a general price reduction. The competition between producers on the one hand and between suppliers on the other hand with the liberalization of the energy market represents another factor that will lead to the decrease of prices.
