
Parsley seeds germinate longer than most other crops. The reason is in natural protection, more precisely in the shell saturated with essential oils. They save from rot and pests, but prevent moisture from getting inside. Until the oils are dissolved, the life inside the seed freeze. Therefore, the old seeds, where the oils partially evaporated, move faster than fresh.
Alcohol bath: simple solution
Experienced summer residents have long known how to wake parsley in a matter of hours. It is only necessary to soak the seeds in a weak alcohol solution. It's not about long pickling. The procedure is fast, but very effective.
How to do it:
- A teaspoon of vodka is dissolved in a glass of warm water
- Seeds are kept in the solution for no more than 15 minutes
- Rinse with water, wrapped in wet fabric and left in heat for 2-3 hours
The roots begin to curse almost immediately. After a couple of hours, the seeds are ready for sowing.
Without vodka: also an option
If you don’t want to use alcohol, hot water is suitable (45-50 degrees). Seeds insist for about two hours, periodically changing water. The method is slower, but also reduces the deadline.
Sowing: What is important
The bed is loosened and moisturized. Seeds are sealed shallow, about 1 cm. Lay a thin layer of peat or humus on top. The first sprouts appear the very next day.
