The giant led by Marek Zuckerberg has recently not been lucky in the AI industry. The latest finish model, in which the company placed considerable hopes, Llama 4 obtained poor results in independent tests of inference and coding, and did not appeal to critics, and the company itself remains behind OpenAi, Google or even Chinese Deepseek. So it seems that the former “Thefacebook” to catch up with his rivals will simply have to buy technology.

When OpenAi, Google or Anthropic, and especially Chinese Deepseek (which creates models for a fraction of the price of its competitors), once again present new “generations” of their LLMs and boast of results in industry benchmarks, finish products seem to become in place and this despite huge expenditure.
The frustration of the company itself seems so large that recently her vice president said goodbye to the finish line – Joelle Pineau, who was responsible for the research and development of artificial intelligence.
Who can help? Money, startup and “stealing” employees
According to “FT”, the meta plans a lot of purchases that can change the balance of power. In the crosshairs of Marek Zuckerberg there is a start-up scale AI, and on the table $ 15 billion, for which the giant can buy 49 percent. Action, and also take over the greatest talents, including primarily a co -founder – 28 -year -old Alexander Wang and his best researchers, whose new task would be to create a “Superinteligence” laboratory.
All this, of course, in the hope that a new team with adequate financial support will be able to compete with Opeli and his chategpt or Google products.
What does Scale AI do? In a nutshell, AI teaches how to learn, and thus prepares training data for artificial intelligence systems. The company creates and organizes huge data sets (e.g. paintings, texts, sensory data), which are then used to train AI models, including OPENAI and Anthropic models. In short: without companies such as Scale AI, great models would have nothing to learn from.
The fight for AI continues
However, the competition is not sleeping. Last year, Microsoft paid over USD 600 million for employing the head of Inflection Mustafa Sulyyman and his best employees and for licensing start-up technology. In turn, Google spent nearly $ 3 billion on a similar agreement with Character AI. Opeli, supported by Microsoft, is just finalizing the next investment round to value the company up to $ 80 billion. Similarly, Anthropic – here, in turn, billions of Amazon and Google.
One thing is clear: who today does not invest billions in talents and infrastructure AI, this risk of technological exclusion. The only question is whether $ 15 billion and a team of young talents are enough to make up for the losses to the race leaders.
