The degree of employment exceeded 60% in the accommodation units opened in the Pentecost, several hotels in Mamaia, Eforie Nord and Neptune reaching maximum capacity, shows the Federation of Romanian Tourism (FPTR). The average budget allocated by a family was about 1,000 lei, and the average duration of stay, 2-3 nights.
“The Pentecost was a good start for the summer season 2025. The coast, the mountain resorts, but also the spa, enjoyed an increased influx, a sign that the holidays in Romania remain a favorite option for many Romanians.”, Shows FPTR.
On the Romanian coast, the occupancy rate exceeded 60% in the accommodation units opened during this period, with some hotels in Mamaia, Eforie Nord and Neptune reaching maximum capacity.
The mountain resorts such as Brasov, Poiana Braşov and Sinaia registered a degree of employment of up to 90% in the operational structures.
In the spa and thermal waters (Băile Felix, Călimăneşti-Căciulata, Băile Herculane, Sovata), the occupancy rate exceeded 85%, a clear sign of the return for relaxation, treatments and SPA services.
Average budget per family of 1,000 lei
The average length of stay was 2-3 nights. The average budget allocated by a family was about 1,000 lei.
The most requested packages were accommodation with breakfast or all inclusive, access to recreational facilities, festive meals, entertainment.
According to FPTR, there was an increased demand for clean, safe locations, with promenade spaces, green areas and easy access to nature or local attractions.
Making a comparison with Pentecost 2024, this year there was an increase of over 15% of the number of tourists in the open accommodation structures. The average budget per tourist increased by about 200 lei. There was also a clear tendency to diversify the tourist choices, with emphasis on spa and coastal tourism.
FPTR points out that, despite the efforts of operators in internal tourism, Romania continues to register a chronic deficit in the balance of tourist payments, of almost 4.3 billion euros in 2024, according to data presented by the National Institute for Research and Development in Tourism (INCDT).
“Romanians' expenses abroad: 9.6 billion euros. Expenses of foreign tourists in Romania: only 5.3 billion euros. Result: an imbalance of 14.6%, perpetuated for over three decades”, The patronage shows.
FPTR emphasizes that the lack of a coherent national strategy for attracting foreign tourists, together with the fragility of external promotion and the lack of a national destination management organization, condemns Romania to the market for tourists, not receivers.
“Romanians choose Romania, but tourist Romania is ready to receive them? Infrastructure under expectations, a worrying tourist deficit and gloomy tax forecasts. FPTR requires action,” not promises “states the representatives of FPTR.
Urgent modernization of road and railway infrastructure is required
In order for the Romanian tourism to become competitive and sustainable, FPTR asks the authorities urgently modernizing the road and railway infrastructure – especially to the coast, mountain areas and spa resorts, as well as the extension and maintenance of promenade areas: pedestrian alleys, bicycle runways, green spaces.
“Romanians choose Romania, but Romania must also choose itself. In the absence of decent infrastructure and a national strategy for attracting foreign tourists, internal tourism is the only functional resource and it is precisely to be penalized by unjustified fiscal measures. We ask the authorities to support, not to sabotage a strategic sector.”Says FPTR President Dragoş Răducan.
The FPTR also asks the authorities to arrange modern and sufficient public toilets, especially in the seaside resorts, the rehabilitation of public lighting in tourist areas – for safety and comfort, constant and efficient sanitation: beaches, parks, central areas, the arrangement of modern and signaled public parking Modern tourist, setting up a national destination management organization – “Visit Romania”, with an active role in coordinated tourism in Romania.
Also, the employer also requests the reform of the INCOMing support schemes, which are currently bureaucratic and insufficient, but also the allocation of a real budget for the external promotion of Romania and the involvement of the travel agencies in directing the offer to incoming.
“Many of these requests are formulated for 35 years and are common sense in any country. But is there a common sense? The Pentecost 2025 mini -vacation has shown that Romanians trust internal tourism. Now is the turn of the authorities to prove that they respect it. FPTR reminds that the development of tourism is not made by statements, but by investments, vision and real partnership with the private environment. Romania has what it offers, but it needs urgent infrastructure, promotion and coherent policies. The future of Romanian tourism Decide today. FPTR reaffirms its willingness to collaborate with any governmental structure that understands the economic, social and image of Romanian tourism”, FPTR representatives say.
