General Mayor Ciprian Ciucu and representatives of the builders established, on Thursday, all the details regarding the next steps to make the Basarab Passage safe, according to the communique sent by the municipality after the meeting.

The Capital City Hall said that “the actual works could be started in June and completed by December 2026”.

The institution specified, however, that the deadlines and the costs of the works will be established only “after the design is completed”.

Why the Basarab Passage “could not be maintained”.

According to the mayor's office, the Basarab Passage “has been in an uncertain situation for almost 15 years”.

“It was put into use in 2011-2012, but without receiving it, which is why it could not be maintained. Due to the lack of maintenance, it deteriorated. The rainwater system, stairs, ramps, joints, elevators, moving sidewalk, signaling elements, but also the structure of the passage itself, all now need repairs,” the statement added.

The municipality specified that the interventions will be divided between the builder, “who will have to repair the execution deficiencies”, and the town hall, “which repairs what has deteriorated due to the lack of maintenance”.

“All the builders have undertaken the realization of the technical project in its entirety, for all categories of works”, the press release also states.

Mayor General Ciprian Ciucu thanked the builders “for the opening”.

“We want to end this administrative madness, to secure the Basarab Passage and to civilize that area,” the mayor also told them.
