Ukraine can do nothing anymore so that its partners in Europe and the United States begin to impose sharper sanctions on Russia. There is also nothing to count on the summit in Canada – said in an interview with PAP Ivan Kyryczewski, an expert of the Ukrainian military portal of Defense Express.

The peak of the G7 leaders in Kananaskis in Albert will start on June 15 and will last until June 17. The G7 includes: Canada, which from January to the end of this year. chairman, as well as France, Japan, Germany, Italy, Great Britain and the USA. The European Union also participates in the G7 works. The President of Ukraine Wołodymyr Zelanski confirmed that he had received an invitation to the summit.

“It is too late. Talking about the United States that they will impose some sanctions, in my opinion it is even funny. They are already starting to ignore and violate our military support base,” the expert assessed.

According to Kyryczewski, Ukraine cannot count that after the top of the G7 leaders in Kananaskis in Canada, the situation will change. “What should we expect? It will not happen that European leaders magically gather, organize a new crusade against Russian imperialism and repeat the events of 1610, when Poles reached Moscow. This will not happen.” – he emphasized. “We just need to focus on supporting the armed forces of Ukraine – we have no other choice,” he added.

According to him, “the mass fire of Ukraine by Russia results from the unchanging nature of Russian imperialism, nothing more and nothing less. It is difficult to remember at least one attack on Kiev in the last three years, which would not be large -scale.”

In June 2024, the Russians most often used during attacks on the territory of Ukraine from 20 to 50 drones of various types. In October and November last year, this number increased to 80-100 unmanned auragils a day, and in January 2025 – to 100-200 drones, used mainly at night.

In the last month, Russia breaks records of massive attacks, often using over 350-400 drones in one night. This is a growing challenge for the Ukrainian air defense forces.

“Russia demonstrates that it is determined to be a threat to the entire civilized world, and uses Ukraine as a kind of experimental training ground – to show that it can bring even more problems to Western countries” – noted Kyryczewski.

In the opinion of an expert, the Russians want to show, in the context of likely future negotiations in Turkey, “that there is no point in negotiating them. (…) Russia only wants the world to accept its conditions.”

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said on Monday that Ukraine hopes that the leaders of the G7 countries during the summit in Canada will decide to reduce the maximum price of Russian oil to $ 30 per barrel. Sybiha stated that one of the key factors that can be used to force Russia to a fair peace is to further strengthen the sanctions.

According to him, “there are still enough areas and industries in which we can increase the pressure of sanctions, and this should become destructive to the Russian economy.” In addition, the factor that can force Russia to conclude a fair peace are frozen assets. “You need more will, more determination. And this is probably one of the solutions that can be expected from the meeting format at the level of G7 leaders” – he emphasized.

On Tuesday, the chairwoman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced that in the 18th packet of sanctions it is proposed to reduce the price limit for oil barrel from 60 to $ 45. The proposal of the 18th Sanctions Package also assumes a ban on transactions with Russian Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines
