A photographer of the New York Post was shot in the head with a rubber ball from California, during Sunday night's protest in the Los Angeles area, writes the American publication.

Toby Canham, who had been sent by the post on the spot and was right next to the 101 motorway, the chaos between police and protesters when a California Road Patrol (CHP) suddenly straightened its weapon and fired about 100 meters away, the source said.

The images filmed by Canham himself, who wore the press card, show that he was hit in the forehead and fell to the ground.

The veteran photographer, who worked in the British army and settled in Los Angeles, spent his day in the hospital and has a huge bruise on his forehead.

“When I was hit, as far as I remember, I was only filming with my rooms and then I was shot,” Canham said.

“Where I was hit, I was the only person looking up at the highway. I wasn't surrounded, so I was an easy target,” added the photographer.

According to the New York Post, before being hit by the rubber ball, a flashing grenade (Flashbang) exploded a few steps, and the shafts made two mouths in his pants. Then, the photographer saw on his left someone who threw a liquid full of liquid to the authorities and then withdrew, which made him shoot with camera 20 seconds before hitting.

Toby Canham was injured on the same day that an Australian reporter was shot with a rubber ball as he reported from the scene.

Violence to Los Angeles protests

In the Los Angeles area there have been violent protests in recent days, in response to the measures of the authorities against immigrants. The Trump administration sent Marini priscuits to the city on Monday and intensified the raids against suspected immigrants that they are illegally in the country, even more feeding the street protesters and democratic leaders, who have expressed concern about a national crisis, according to Reuters.

The military and federal law enforcement operations have deepened the divisions between the two major American political parties, in the conditions in which Trump, Republican, threatened to arrest the Democratic Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, because he opposed the federal media measures.

The state of California sued the Trump administration on Monday to block the development of the National Guard and Marine prisons, claiming that the measure violates the federal law and its autonomy.
