New bridge over the Oder. What do we know about the investment and what are the expansion plans?
Construction bridge on the Odra River along provincial road No. 421, it is one of the largest infrastructure investments in the Silesian Voivodeship. The project, which is scheduled for completion in 2027, has already achieved 73 percent completion. advancement – says the contractor. The main goal of the investment is to connect the communes of Nędza and Rudnik. In addition to the construction of a 633.6 m long bridge, the project also includes the construction of a 2.7-kilometer section of provincial road No. 421.
It will include the construction of intersections with the existing road network, access roads, as well as safety, drainage, lighting and service channel infrastructure.

Bridge over the Oder. Why will it be so long?
The new bridge will consist of 13 spans with a span of 40 to 50 m. Importantly, the structure has been designed so that the abutments are located outside the flood embankments. Thanks to this, the crossing will be resistant to potential threats related to high water levels.
“That's why the bridge is so long. If there were heavy rainfall, it would not be at risk. This also results in high construction costs,” explains Ryszard Pacer from the Provincial Roads Authority in an interview with the Local Government Portal.

Bridge over the Oder. End of the ferry crossing
The new investment is of particular importance to the inhabitants of the region. Currently, the only way to cross the Oder in this place is by ferry – the last such solution on the Silesian section of the river. The construction of the bridge will solve a long-standing communication problem, both for local communities and drivers from outside the region.
Thanks to the new crossing, access to tourist attractions in the area will also be improved, including: in the Rudnik commune. Moreover, the bridge will enable transit transport without the need to enter Racibórz, which is only a dozen or so kilometers away.

The contract for the construction of the bridge was signed in January 2024, and the first works started in mid-year. The plan assumes completion of the investment within three years. The contractor of the project is Strabag, which is responsible for carrying out the order for the Provincial Roads Authority in Katowice. The new crossing on the Oder has a chance to become one of the key communication points in the region.
