The US is negotiating with China. “WSJ”: AS in Trump's hands, abolishing technological restrictions

US President Donald Trump authorized the American team conducting commercial talks with China in London to abolish recent restrictions on exports of the “wide range” of technological solutions to China, “Wall Street Journal” said on Monday. It is supposed to be “as a sleeve” in negotiations with Beijing.

According to “WSJ”, which referred to the sources of the initiated case, Trump authorized the negotiations of the Minister of Finance Scott Bessent to abolish “recent restrictions on the sale of a wide range of technology and other products to China.” It is not clear what specific restrictions would be lifted, but “WSJ” reminded that recently imposed restrictions apply to, among others jet engines, programs used for the production of integrated circuits and ETAN gas.

Exports of sensitive technologies to China have been introduced successively for years, also during the term of President Joe Biden.

As the newspaper said, Trump's decision testifies to the new strategy and shows the impact of Chinese limitations of rare metal exports to the USA on American companies. Beijing introduced additional restrictions in this respect after the US applied high duties in May. After a temporary “truce”, negotiated during the first talks in Geneva, they were to be alleviated, but Washington accused Beijing that he did not keep this decision. It was only after last week's conversation of the leaders of both countries that China awarded a limited number of licenses for exporting minerals of critical importance for American companies.

The director of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett said that after the conversations started on Monday in London, he expects quick results, including additional alleviation of Chinese restrictions.
