King of Spain Romania. Is expected next to Nicuşor Dan at NATO Military Unit in Cincu

King Felipe VI of Spain landed on Monday night at the International Airport in Sibiu. He will go to Cincu on Tuesday, where the Spanish military who participates in NATO missions are dislocated.

According to the program announced by the Presidential Administration, the visit is scheduled at 10:20.

The visit takes place in a context of bilateral cooperation between Romania and Spain, consolidated including through military collaboration within NATO.

In the context of the invasion of Russia in Ukraine (2022), a NATO (Battle Group Forward Presence-BGFP) was established in Cincu, later Collective Defense Battle Group (CDBG), with France as a nation.

The first visit of a foreign official from the mandate of Nicușor Dan

This is the first visit to Romania of a high state official since taking over the mandate of president by Nicușor Dan.

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia were also in Romania in 2009, then as princely of Asturia. Also, Romania was also visited by the former monarchs of Spain, King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia, in 1978 and 2003.

Felipe VI was proclaimed king on June 19, 2014, with the promise of a “renovated monarchy” and for a “new Spain”. The king has the ranks of general, captain of the army, the navy and the air forces, the highest military degree that corresponds exclusively to that of the supreme commander of the armed forces.
