Ion Iliescu (95 years old) is admitted to the intensive care section of the SRI Hospital “Agrippa Ionescu” in Bucharest, announces Antena 3 and Digi 24, which cites sources.

Iliescu was urgently hospitalized on Monday afternoon and is subjected to several investigations, according to sources.

Ion Iliescu was the President of Romania for 3 mandates, between December 22, 1989 and 1992, then between 1992-1996 and between 2000-2004.

He has not been seen in public for several years.

The latest message transmitted by Ion Iliescu on his blog was after the presidential elections won by Nicușor Dan.

“Congratulations, Mr. Nicușor Dan! I ask you the most sincere greetings for the confidence that the Romanian people have given by your choice in the highest function of the state. Your victory expresses a deep aspiration of citizens for responsible, honest and future management.

The experience gained in the field of administration and constant involvement in public life are grounds to hope for a presidential mandate marked by balance, respect for democratic values and care for the welfare of all Romanians.

Romania is going through a complex period, with special economic, social and geopolitical challenges. This is why it is essential for all democratic political forces to work together, to set aside the conflict spirit and to support the presidential institution in the effort to ensure stability, continuity and clear direction for the country.

Romania needs coherence, dialogue and firm commitment to strengthen democratic institutions and its European path. I am convinced that you will exercise this responsibility with dignity and the sense of debt towards the nation.

I wish you much success in fulfilling the mission you have assumed and the power to remain faithful to the ideals of social equity and progress. ”
