The EC recently informed that he is working on creating his own application for age verification: “The Age Verifivation”. The pilot version is to be released on the market any day. It will be based on the same technology as the currently developed EU digital identity portfolio, i.e. an application that allows citizens to store and manage their official documents online. The application is to allow the user's age to be determined, while ensuring his privacy, which is now the main challenge when implementing verification mechanisms.

It will be necessary to enter the pages with pornography, alcohol and gambling, but also on social, e.g. Facebook, X, Instagram, Tiktok, YouTube, Pinterest, Snapchat or even LinkedIn.

The system, the first version of which was presented in March, is created thanks to the cooperation of Scytales and T-Systems.

The solution is to protect juvenile more effectively against harmful content on the Internet. Social media have an age limit in the form 13 yearsLinkedIn can be assumed with 16 years old. In practice, however, until now it was difficult to determine the user's age and prevent, for example, 8-year-old access to YouTube or even pornography.

According to Gemius's report in Poland, we have almost 30 million Internet users, of which over 4 million are minors, with half of them are girls and half the boys. WITH Pornhuba is used by 1/3 of minors. This platform is located on seventh place in TOP10 websiteson which young people are, next to the most popular Tik-Toka, Facebook or Instagram.

After the announcement of the introduction of the application, in places in the network gathering parents (e.g. groups on Facebook or internet forums) you could read comments that can be summarized in one word: finally!

Adults will be able to confirm their age thanks to the application without having to disclose personal data to websites. You will not provide your data – the application will only confirm that you are of legal age. The app will not be mandatorybut without it we will not enter the indicated pages.

While the parents of the children announced the changes with satisfaction, the adults using the Internet were pale fear. First of all, because access to data in a central place can become a greedy morsel for hackers. And what follows that someday their presence on pornographic services will come to light.

The application is to be a temporary tool that will replace in the future digital identity portfolio. This is to be a comprehensive tool enabling access to public and private services, storing digital documents and binding signatures. All EU citizens will be able to use it by the end of 2026 at the latest.

The EC informed that the application will also be able to be used by pornographic platforms, but it is their duty that is effective verification of age, so they should not wait for the EU application to be launched. Currently, users can enter pornographic pages only confirming one click that they are 18 years old.

If it turns out that pornographic platforms have broken digital regulations, the EC may impose a financial penalty of up to 6 percent. their global turnover. The initiation of formal proceedings opens the process of gathering evidence and does not prejudge its result. Companies can also make formal obligations to solve problematic issues.

On this occasion, our government announced that it is also working on the implementation of regulations that will allow to define patostrems and harmful content on the Internet.
