Los Angeles is preparing for a new day of disorders on Monday because of President Donald Trump's immigration policies, after the police declared the center of the city of illegal assembly and ordered the protesters to go home, reports Reuters.
California officials criticized the sending of the National Guard by the White House to the city, stating that they were not necessary and only aggravated the situation. Governor Gavin Newsom has promised to sue the federal government.
“This is exactly what Donald Trump wanted. He lit the fires and acted illegally to federalize the National Guard,” Newsom posted on Monday on X. “We sue it.”
The mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, accused the Trump administration of increasing the tensions by sending the guard. She also condemned violent episodes from protests after some participants set cars and threw bottles in the police
“I do not want people to fall into the chaos that think it is created by the administration completely useless,” Bass said in a press conference on Sunday.
The National Guard sent to California
Troops of the National Guard, sent by Trump on the weekend to help calm the protests, in a movement that the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, called illegal, guarded the federal government buildings on Sunday. Los Angeles disorders have become an obstacle to Trump's goal to suppress illegal immigration.
The President Republican promised to deport a record number of people illegally in the country and to block the border between the US and Mexico, establishing for the ICE agency (the Immigration and Customs Imigration Service) to arrest at least 3,000 migrants.
Representatives of the state and the local administration in California, most of them being Democrats, accuse Trump of inflamed the protests, which were initially not large, through federal intervention. He calls the protesters “insurrection”. Los Angeles police said some protesters threw concrete pieces, bottles and other objects to police. The police declared several manifestations as illegal meetings, then expanding the status on the entire central area.
Călăre police officers tried to control the crowds. Some officers used deafening grenades and tear gas, CNN said.
The protesters shouted “Shame on you!” To the police, and some were surprised by throwing objects, according to video images. A group blocked the 101 motorway, a main artery in the city center.
The head of the Los Angeles police, Jim McDonnell, said in a press information on Sunday evening that people have the right to protest peacefully, but the violence committed by some seemed “disgusting” and that the protests get out of control.
The police announced that he had arrested ten people on Sunday and 29 the previous night, adding that the arrests continue.
On Saturday there were protests against the rays made by ICE in Los Angeles. In response to escalating the conflict between the police and the protesters, President Donald Trump decided to send the national guard.
