About 5,000 soldiers from four countries – Italy, Republic of Moldova, Romania and the US – participate, from Monday to June 24, in the multinational exercise Saber Guardian 25 (SG25), led by the ground forces of the United States (Usareur) and the command of forces met “General Ioan Emanoil Florescu”, informs, on Monday, a statement of the Ministry of National Defense.

The exercises are carried out in several polygons in Romania, including Frecaţei and Babadag (Tulcea county), Suraia (Vrancea) and Cincu (Brasov).

“The main purpose of the SG25 is to strengthen the cohesion, unity and solidarity between allied and partner states, by demonstrating the capacity of rapid reaction and concentration of forces at any point in Europe, in a short time,” MApN shows.

SG25 is part of the Defender 25 exercise complex, which includes planning and coordination stages initiated before the current operative phases. In May, the exercise was preceded by the dislocation of the personnel and equipment to the training areas through the national road, naval and air transport networks. After the completion of the activities, the withdrawal of the forces, scheduled for the second decade of June, will follow.

Defender 25 is planned by the US Armed Forces Command in Europe (useuom) and coordinated by USareur-AF (US Land Forces Command in Europe and Africa). This year's edition brings together about 10,000 soldiers from seven allied and partner states, with activities carried out in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania.

The main training sequences include tactical marches with military technique, repeated river crossings and exercises with real ammunition, all with the objective of developing interoperability between the participating contingents.

The exercise of Saber Guardian is organized biennially since 2013, aiming to strengthen the common reaction capacity in a broad spectrum of missions, both within NATO and together with the partner states. The event is part of the USareur-AF common training program and contributes to the consolidation of military cooperation, both at the bilateral level and within the extended alliance, the MApN envisages.
